Blogging group- follow up question

What are your thoughts on Meagan Long's interview or blog?

The interview was good. The interviewer asked very effective questions--and Meagan gave very informative answers. It seems that blogging has in fact created employment marketability, and if you can promote yourself by doing so, then you can be sure that you will have a competitive edge, especially in the art world.

  1. I thought it was interesting and I would like to try the blogging sites that she suggested.

  2. I think that Megan's comments were good. However, I feel that because she covered her hair and eyes, she really took all her credibility away. She said that she didn't want to be part of a society that would be censored, however; she put on a wig and wore sunglasses. That kind of contradiction doesn't sit well in my book.

  3. I liked the interview. She made some very valid points about blogs and reasons to blog. I don't think I'll ever have a blog, but I understand why some people do.

  4. Meagan's interview was somewhat informative to me however I'm not very familiar with blogging so I don't have to much to compare to. However I feel as though her information was more opinionated rather than informative. She seemed passionate about what she does though honestly I would not go out and create a blog after listening to her.

  5. I feel that the interview was good because of some of the questions that were asked. She seemed to have tried to answer the questions that were asked but she kind of made herself as an artists that wasn't willing to change her style or take any criticism into consideration. Even though she said she wanted ideas and bad thoughts because that would make her better, she went and said after, that she would not listen. But overall the point of the interview for the class came out good. I actually got to see how blogging could lead to a job or networking a career.

  6. Personally, I enjoyed watching the video with Megan Long. I enjoy blogging but have been too shy and reluctant to start my own blog (I'm actually in the process of creating my blog--gathering info stage). It was nice to hear that Megan has gotten job/intern opportunities because of her blogging. I was recommended to start my own blog some time ago, considering that I was once a journalism major. I'm still interested in journalism/mass communication/web communication, so perhaps starting my own blog will bring me new and exciting opportunities.

  7. Brett Tingley says: The interview with Megan Long was interesting - it shows how today's generation has embraced new media and internet tools in unforeseen ways. In this case, an amateur photographer used a photo sharing blog to propel her career forward.

Particularly interesting, however, is the fact that she uses an auto-blogging widget to post automatically even when she is away from her computer; does the automation undo her status as an author?

  8. I thought it was interesting how Meagan commented that she hates how digital the world is becoming less personal, however, she also praises it for blogging to be a great social network. Her internships and job opportunities were forged from a less personal source into being a personal opportunity. From what I learned of blogging, blogging creates an environment that is open to everyone that wants to join. It is up for the reader to decide who to read and follow. From blogging I believe you can have personal relationships with people face to face as well as people who read the blog that are in the area.

  9. I thought it was interesting to see how Megan was able to network and be able showcase her talents and abilities to other people/networks/jobs. Her comments were interesting and actually made me want to try blogging myself. Thought it was a great interview too! (this coming from a journalism major).

  10. I like seeing people find success on the internet free resources. I think that she's right when she says that this will be the new way to connect with people in the future. I also got connected to a web site not too long ago that exhibited my photography for sale. I took some great pictures during my time as an exchange student in England a few years ago. When I came back I submitted the pictures to the site and they agreed to sell them for me. They marketed their web site well, they acted as a mediator between the customer and me, and they did all of the leg work. To date I have sold 10 photos on that site making over $1000. So I'm right there with her!

  11. I found Megan's interview interesting. She seems very committed to her work and obviously dances to the beat of her own drum. I thought that the interviewers did an outstanding job of asking thought provoking questions.

  12. The interview helped to point it some of the beneficial effects of blogging. I learned that by promoting yourself through a blog it is possible to increase your network and opportunities. Blogs are good for publishing your ideas as well show skills you possess. I'm still not planning on making a blog. I like the people I know and I do not care to post my life online for everyone to read, except on facebook.

  13. It was interesting to hear about the type of feedback that Tumblr provides about the viewers of a blog. I do agree that she contradicted herself about her views of censoring and the way that she "edited" her image.

  14. Twas an interesting interview. Her behavior was mildly antagonistic towards changes to her own personal photographs but other than that she seemed mildly open to the change of the internet and was very supportive of blogging.

  15. I found it interesting that the person being interviewed wanted to keep her identity a secret to preserve a separation between the work she does and who she is. The blog has some good pictures and is a great compliment addressing the work that she does. Aside from the interview with the artist, I thought it would of been helpful if random pictures of her work were being inserted throughout. Overall, the questions asked were fine and I could tell the artist was nervous.
